In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead.
Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
----John McRae, Canadian physician who served and died on the Western Front, WWI

"i'm on vacation!"

yes, i am on vacation.
no, i am not heading out in the family truckster with pee-soaked, wax-paper wrapped sandwiches and a dead family member on board.
i am just going to be playing outside as much as possible until june 2, when i have to head back to the office. it felt so good today to be busy there, tying up all the loose ends, clearing off my desk, knowing i would be a free girl for the next week or so!
we are going to pack up the cabrio truckster and take an overnite down to the milw/madison area to visit a bunch of nurseries and garden centers in search of perennials for the ever expanding gardens in the yard. can't wait!!

"you can bury a lot of your troubles by digging in the dirt"

There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling. ~Mirabel Osler
our vegetable garden is in...these pix are downloaded from the web, of course, our garden is not green yet, mostly dirt brown.
i planted way too much for 2 people with the intent of sharing with the kids and the community.
the food pantry loves getting fresh stuff to distribute.
and ours will have no chemicals whatsoever. that will be the best part.
HAPPY SPRING! NOW GET OUT THERE AND PLANT SOMETHING!!

did you get yours?

what a windfall!! our check just went in a big circle, back to uncle sam to pay our taxes.
how stimulating.
not.
hope you were able to have fun with yours.....
