can you see the image of the bird, wings extended in an upward arc?
but i'm not either of the above so i will tell you the truth.
it is the greasy imprint of a mourning dove left on my front window after he crashed into it head-on.
this happens all the time due to the often frenzied activity around the bird feeders outside this particular window.
the day after christmas i had to fill 2 tube feeders with sunflower seed twice in one day--there were close to a hundred goldfinches and pine siskins (infrequent visitors) working the feeders all day long.
they would periodically softly bang against the window and move off.
but not the guy pictured above. i expected to go out and find his lifeless body in the hedge, but didn't.
he sure got his christmas bell rung, though.
i love the soft song of the mourning dove but they are definitely the pea brains of the bird world.
they love to build rickety nests in our rain gutters; nests that promptly get carried away in the first downpour after construction.
and then mom and pop are right back at it, rebuilding in the same location. whenever i hear the term " bird-brain" the image of a mourning dove comes up on the screen in my head.
so---happy new year and watch where the heck you're going in 2009!! ; )
